K-12 FORESTRY EDUCATION

WHEELS TO WOODS PROGRAM

Connecting Classrooms
to FORESTS

Wheels to Woods is an education-focused program designed to help schools remove barriers to outdoor learning by getting K–12 students into the forest.

Through hands-on experiences, students explore:

  • Sustainable forestry practices

  • Forest ecology

  • The journey of wood from forest to finished product

  • The wide range of careers connected to forests and natural resources.

By connecting classrooms to real-world forest environments, Wheels to Woods fosters environmental stewardship, career awareness, and a deeper understanding of how healthy forests support our communities and economy.

HOW IT WORKS

W2W reimburses actual travel costs to and from the event location. This is limited to $350 per bus, with a maximum of $1000 per school year across all events.

We will NOT reimburse costs exceeding the approved amount listed on the application form!

Please remember we only cover transportation and do not pay for admission, meals, parking, chaperone fees, or other expenses.

Given limited funds, preference will be given to schools using the Michigan Project Learning Tree Modules focused on Forestry.
